these golden pleasures

Historical Romance Review: These Golden Pleasures by Valerie Sherwood

Posted on April 22, 2022November 11, 2022 by IntrovertReader

What can I say about Valerie Sherwood’s These Golden Pleasures? Well, this 512 page epic starts out wonderfully but then falters then lags in the middle, and is rushed at the end.

the sheik

Classic Romance Review: The Sheik by Edith M. Hull

Posted on April 21, 2022January 3, 2023 by IntrovertReader

The Sheik by Edith M. Hull, published in 1919, is as influential to the modern romance genre as Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. Perhaps, even more so.

It was a blockbuster of a success, despite its many detractors. While some modern readers may cringe at its depiction of women, sexual roles, and racial attitudes, The Sheik remains a compelling read one hundred years after its publication. 5 stars

Historical Romance Review: Ecstasy’s Fire by Rosalyn Alsobrook

Posted on April 11, 2022November 28, 2023 by Blue Falcon

When a book begins with a typo, that’s not a good sign, and Ecstasy’s Fire by Rosalyn Alsobrook begins with one. On the back cover of the book, the heroine is identified as Victoria Connors. In the book, she’s named VIRGINIA Connors. Not a good beginning. 3.5 stars

Historical Romance Review: Heather by Cordia Byers

Posted on March 31, 2022November 10, 2022 by IntrovertReader

In Heather by Cordelia Byers, stuff occurs while characters are like marionettes being pulled by strings to the next scene. 1 star

Category Romance Review: Beloved Deceiver by Flora Kidd

Posted on March 29, 2022November 28, 2023 by IntrovertReader

Flora Kidd’s Beloved Deceiver still sticks out in my mind for one big reason. It’s the only Harlequin/Mills-and-Boon I’ve read to feature a hero from the Dominican Republic, which is my parents’ birth country. 3.45 stars

Historical Romance Review: Nebraska Fire by Lauren Wilde

Posted on March 28, 2022November 28, 2023 by Blue Falcon

This review is of Nebraska Fire by Lauren Wilde, a Zebra Lovegram romance. Nebraska Fire is not a flawless book, but it is good enough to warrant a 4-star grade.
