Theme: Hero Stay Away, Heroine Is Not Interested
A sexy clinch pose can really sell a book. Two lovers locked in a passionate embrace is an eye-catching image. What’s going on with these covers? These heroines’ lips say no, their eyes say no, and their bodies’ language definitely says no!
Sexual assault isn’t a laughing matter, and we’re not saying these covers venture that far. But we think these heroes are going to have to work overtime to prove to these ladies they are worth it. These women are not interested in whatever the men are offering.
There’s something ridiculous about the way these ladies protest their advances. It makes us bite our lips to stop chortling.
Is our sense of humor perhaps a bit immature? You bet!
The Covers
For the week of Monday, May 16, to Sunday, May 22, 2022, we’re trying not to laugh at these heroes who are attempting to put the moves on their heroines who aren’t having any of it!

1) Love Me, Marietta, Jennifer Wilde, Warner, 1981, Max Ginsburg cover art
Marietta’s expression as she pushes at the pirate’s chest says it all, doesn’t it? Looks like she’d prefer to go overboard than spend some time with this sailor.
2) Timeless, Kate Donovan, Pinnacle, 1994, Paul Bachem cover art
What’s that pensive look on the heroine’s face all about? She’s probably thinking, I’m so beautiful. I can’t be with this guy; he has a mullet.
3) The Flaming, Pat Tracy, Harlequin, 1990, Pino cover art
Dude, when a girl’s pushing you away like that, read the room, dragon-breath! The guy needs a breath mint, ASAP.
4) Falcon Fury, Katherine Yorke, Pinnacle, 1982 cover artist unknown
Oh my, this cover. The poor heroine looks terrified. And it’s no wonder; her entire top is missing. We definitely see a nip-slip.
