The book starts in London, England, in 1810. Elsa Palmer is searching for her sister, Claretta, who became a prostitute after the death of her husband. He was a man their father didn’t approve of. Elsa convinces Claretta to travel to America with her and Elsa’s husband, William.

The Book

Rapture’s Rebel by Iris Bancroft is the first non-Viking historical romance set in Scandinavia that I’ve read. The blurb made it sound so exciting. Alas…

I HATE being let down by books that seem to have promise, but end with a lifeless whimper. Bodice rippers set in Russia are my siren song! This should have rocked!

The Plot

Russian soldiers have taken over a town in Sweden and Kirsten hides in a hot sauna for protection. Stupid Kirsten lets a little kitty in there with her and he dies, the poor thing! Well, maybe not so poor. Kitty’s pain is over, but mine was still to come as I had this turkey of a book to finish.... Read more “Historical Romance Review: Rapture’s Rebel by Iris Bancroft”

Then, she spots a body floating in the water. She urges the sailors to bring him aboard. However, when they see the man’s Union buckle on his uniform, everyone but Savannah wants to throw the enemy back into the sea. Savannah is defiant, swearing to save the handsome Yankee officer, despite everyone’s protestations, including her Uncle, who’s in charge of the mission.

Savannah takes the Yankee on land and brings him to an inn. With a doctor’s aid, she helps the Northern officer recover, saving his injured arm from amputation. Savannah is instantly attracted to the blond-haired Lt. Commander named Skyler Reade. He, too, quickly falls for the woman who saves his life.

Upon a tropical beach, Savannah and Skyler exchange their words of love, promising to be together. As they begin to make love, an explosion shatters the silence.... Read more “Historical Romance Review: Rebel Vixen by Dana Ransom”
