Covers of the Week 66 gehm

Artist: Charles Gehm

Charles Gehm was an American Postwar & Contemporary artist who painted in many fields. Gehm was born in Alliance, Ohio, on September 20, 1929. In 1948 he won the Scholastic Art Awards Certificate of Merit. This included a scholarship to attend the Columbus College of Art and Design.

Over time, Gehm enjoyed great success as an illustrator. During his long career, he created cover art for every major publishing house.

His collectible art projects include a series of limited edition Gone With The Wind prints and Grimm’s Fairy Tales plates. Gehm designed posters for the films Barry Lyndon, The Island, The River, The Betsey, and Death on the Nile. In 2002, the board of the NYSE selected him to create their annual Christmas card.

Later in life, Gehm taught illustration, painting, and design at WCSU and Pratt Institute.

After a long, storied life and career, Charles Gehm passed away on June 13th, 2015, in Danbury, CT. He left behind his widow Judy York. She was also a romance cover artist. We’ll highlight her art next week.

Thanks, Jacqueline. Nice covers! I like the one for “Border Fires” best. We can’t be sure what the guy is thinking. But it’s pretty obvious what the girl is!
