Category Romance Review: A Passionate Affair by Anne Mather

Posted on March 2, 2022November 28, 2023 by IntrovertReader

In Anne Mather’s A Passionate Affair, the heroine, Cassandra, is a divorcee whom the hero pursues and they engage in a…passionate affair. This was revolutionary. Before this book, lovemaking in this line had been restricted to married couples or “forced seductions” of initially unwilling virgins whose bodies “betrayed them.” A solid romance. 3.5 stars

Historical Romance Review: Savage Obsession by Cassie Edwards

Posted on February 28, 2022December 17, 2023 by Blue Falcon

This review is of Savage Obsession, book #1 in the “Chippewa” series by Cassie Edwards. From what I read of others’ reviews of her books, there is no middle ground with Mrs. Edwards’ work. Some love her, and others absolutely hate her. I’m kind of in the middle. Savage Obsession won’t make anyone a fan of Mrs. Edwards’ work who wasn’t already one. 2 stars

The Perfect Marriage, Laurey Bright 1995 Diane Sivavec

Category Romance Review: A Perfect Marriage by Laurey Bright

Posted on February 26, 2022November 28, 2023 by IntrovertReader

Silhouette Intimate Moments #621 It’s difficult for me to give Laurey Bright’s A Perfect Marriage a coherent review because it’s a romance novel that deals with adultery. 3 stars

Historical Romance Review: Captive Angel by Deana James

Posted on February 24, 2022January 15, 2023 by IntrovertReader

Deana James’ romance Captive Angel was an emotional, turbulent Zebra Lovegram romance with a heroine who was forged in fire and a hero not worthy to lick her boots. One of the best non-romance romances 5 stars

Historical Romance Review: Charlotte by Amanda Hart Douglass

Posted on February 23, 2022September 7, 2023 by IntrovertReader

Charlotte by Amanda Hart Douglass is a circa 1978 historical romance novel set during the American Civil War, but it lacks in romance and centers around the life of the heroine’s debauched brother. .5 Stars

Historical Romance Review: Nobility Ranch (aka To Love a Lady) by Cynthia Stirling

Posted on February 21, 2022November 28, 2023 by Blue Falcon

This review is of Nobility Ranch (ebook title To Love a Lady), book #1 of 3 in the “Titled Texans” series from July 2000 by Cynthia Sterling. Ms. Sterling gets her “Titled Texans” series off to a great start with Nobility Ranch/To Love a Lady. It’s not a 5-star book, but it is a very good one. 4.44 stars

Unusual Settings In Historical Romances

Posted on February 19, 2022June 20, 2026 by jdiazsweetsavageflame

Let’s talk about extraordinary settings! I use the term “extraordinary” rather than “exotic” to describe places simply because one person’s idea of “exotic” is another’s idea of home. Whatever word you use, it’s fun to talk about unique settings in romance we don’t often encounter.

And Gold Was Ours duillo

Historical Romance Review: And Gold Was Ours by Rebecca Brandewyne

Posted on February 18, 2022November 1, 2023 by IntrovertReader

And Gold Was Ours is a sequel of sorts to Rebecca Brandewyne‘s Love, Cherish Me. I’d consider this more of a companion piece. While both novels have Brandewyne’s hallmark baroque-gothic atmosphere, And Gold Was Ours is not as dark and emotional as its predecessor. 3.5 Stars
